How this system works, the water is heated, and the steam passed through the plant materials, this vaporizes the volatile compounds. After this the vapors flow through a coil, where they condense back to liquid, and then finally collected in the receiving vessel. The left over water from this process is sometimes sold separately for the use of cosmetics.

Solvent extraction, this process is used for the more delicate flowers, the ones that couldn’t make it through some of the other methods of obstruction. In this process solvents such as hexane or supercritical carbon dioxide are used to extract the oils.

Florasols extraction, this is another type of solvent used to extract essential oils. The use of this solvent is suppose to be eco friendly however there is some evidence that it could have effects in global warming. The good things abut its uses for extracting essential oils is that it is done below room temperature. This reduces the effects of the solvent.
